Silesia Winning Streak ends in Graz
European Women’s Hockey League (EWHL): while on Saturday the Hungarian clubs took 9 of 9 possible points on the road, Sunday was the day of the Styrian clubs…
KSV Neuberg Highlanders managed to get the first point in their 8th game with a 3-4 overtime loss against Budapest Jegkorong Akademia while a 2-1 win of Graz means the end of the winning streak of Tauron Metropolia Silesia after 9 consecutive wins. After a 1-2 defeat in the first of two games against Tauron Silesia Metropolis on Saturday, the EC Graz Huskies were determined to seek revenge. In the second game against the Polish team, they aimed to convert the momentum from the previous day into points. Just like the day before, an evenly matched, intense, and exciting game unfolded, initially favoring the Polish team due to several penalties against the Huskies. However, after a 2-0 lead for Graz in first period Silesia and league top scorer Karolina Pozniewska scored the 1-2 in power play but that already meant the final result. So the Huskies achieved their revenge for the previous day’s loss and became the first team to defeat the previously undefeated leaders.
On Saturday, the international Women’s Ice Hockey League (EWHL) featured thrilling matches in which Hungarian teams emerged victorious. The Hungarian representatives delivered impressive performances and secured crucial wins. The Lakers Kärnten played against the Budapest Jegkorong Akademia in their home game. Despite putting up a tough fight, they ultimately succumbed to a 3:4 defeat. The Lakers’ away game scheduled for Sunday against the Sabres in St. Pölten was then canceled prematurely, as the Lakers did not have enough players available due to several players becoming ill. In another exciting matchup, the HC SKP Bratislava squared off against the Hokiklub Budapest. Last years’ EWHL champion succeeded finally with a 5-3 victory on the road. Another “victory for Hungary” was achieved in Italy when MAC Budapest faced off against the EVB Eagles Südtirol. The Hungarian ladies secured a 3-1 away win, once again demonstrating their strength this season…
