EWHL Leader vs. Budapest Jegkorong Akademia

Okt. 20, 2023 | EWHL

European Women’s Hockey League (EWHL): on Saturday and Sunday, the top-ranked team in the EWHL, Tauron Metropolia Silesia, will be playing against the Budapest Jegkorong Akademia in Katowice…

The Polish team is performing exceptionally well in the League. The players, coached by Zbigniew Wróbel, have already secured six victories and are currently leading the league standings. At the beginning of the season in Katowice, they defeated the Italian EVB Eagles South Tyrol twice with scores of 4:2 and 4:3. They later won against the Austrian KSV Neuberg Highlanders with scores of 5:1 and 3:2. Last weekend, they triumphed away against the Austrian DEC Salzburg Eagles with scores of 6:1 and 4:2. In the scoring rankings, Karolina Późniewska and Maja Brzezińska are at the top. Późniewska holds the second position with 10 points (6 goals and 4 assists), closely followed by Brzezińska, who has scored three goals and provided five assists. This Saturday and Sunday, the Polish team will face the Hungarian team Budapest Jegkorong Akademia, which has three losses on their record but has faced strong opponents, including a 3:4 loss to Aisulu Almaty from Kazakhstan and defeats to Hokiklub Budapest with scores of 3:5 and 1:3. The match on Saturday will commence at 5:00 PM, and the return game on Sunday will start at 10:00 AM. Admission to the games is free, and both matches will also be broadcast on the Polish Hockey YouTube channel.

On Saturday also SKP Bratislava will play… against MAC Budapest. The Hungarians have two points from 2 games against Sabres and Graz so far but could take a lot of self-confidence from their performance in the Supercup final 4. By the way: in Supercup preliminary round these two teams already had a direct duel against each other – with a 2-1 win for MAC. So SKP – with 7 points from 3 games so far – is going for a revenge on Saturday…

Additionally the Eagles South Tyrol will have a weekend in Budapest playing first HKB and then MAC. After a start without points in Poland the Italians won their next games against Lakers and Sabres. Will their winning streak also continue against the two top teams from Hungary? Two more great games will be ahead to give exactly this answer… Mayer Fruzsina (player HKB): “This is going to be our first game against Bolzano this year, we expect a strong game. Our goal is to get back on the winning track.”
