Christmas Break

After the clear defeat yesterday leader Tauron Metropolia Silesia fought back against Bratislava today and managed to take one point from Slovakia. This point is the reason that they will smile from first place in the standings through the now following Christmas break and New Year. Before they will play against their hardest competitor – on 6th and 7th of January the team from Poland will meet defending Champion HK Budapest in the arena and fight for the first place. While these two teams – as well as their two pursuers Almaty and Bratislava – were able to extend their lead over places 5-8 to 10 points, the latter could manage to increase the gap towards 9th placed BJA and 10th Bolzano.
The KEHV Lakers won again this weekend and beat the SKN Sabres St. Pölten 4-2, while Graz won 5-3 against Bolzano. And as MAC lost 1-4 against Aisulu there are now just 3 points between the places 5 to 8. And the lead towards the next teams is also not high enough to plan for a play off participation already – there’s still a lot of hard work ahead. So in January and February a lot of action and many tough and great games can be expected in the European Women’s Hockey League…
